Pickering South Geothermal Hub
Following early stage feasibility work completed in 2024, we are now working with Pickering Town CIC and other partners on a potential geothermal heat network to supply the Ryedale Swim & Fitness Centre, the Police Station and the “Atmosphere” family centre. The work is being funded through a £215,613 grant from the Carbon Negative Challenge Fund administered by the York & North Yorkshire Combined Authority. In addition to the grant, we secured £52,000 in private match funding for the project.
A ground-source heat network could offer lower, more stable heating costs than the existing gas systems, a zero‑carbon solution supporting local climate goals, improved energy resilience and a long‑term, sustainable heating source for the town. We will deliver full engineering and technical designs, an assessment of heat supply and network routes, a planning assessment for the proposed system and public engagement events to provide information.
Pickering Central Geothermal Hub
We are working with Pickering Town CIC on early-stage feasibility for a geothermal heat network to supply the Pickering Community Infants and Nursery School with decarbonised heat. The work is being funded through a £47,443 grant from the Carbon Negative Challenge Fund administered by the York & North Yorkshire Combined Authority. In addition to the grant, we have secured £12,000 in private match funding for the project. Once installed, a ground-source heat network would ensure lower, more stable heating costs than the existing gas system and a zero‑carbon solution providing sustainable heating for the school.
We will deliver an assessment of the technical and commercial potential of such a heat network, an analysis of heat demand, ground conditions and possible network routes plus a pre-application planning assessment. The project also includes a community engagement workstream which includes leaflet distributions, town hall meetings, the creation of a geo-champions volunteer group and a weekly market stall to be hosted throughout the summer of 2026.
