DOAN Energy - Expert Community Renewable Solutions

Empowering Communities through Locally-Owned Renewable Energy

At DOAN Energy, we provide origination, development, financing  and project management services to community groups who wish to lower energy costs, increase resilience and reduce their carbon footprints.

Origination and Financing

We help community groups develop their project concepts and then raise grant funding to enable feasibility studies to be undertaken. Over the past several years we have successfully raised £0.8 million (£0.6 million in grants and £0.2 million in private match funding) for various community groups and local councils, taking full control and responsibility for the grant applications.

"With DOAN Energy we have built an excellent level of mutual trust and cooperation in moving towards our aim of decarbonised, affordable, geothermal heating in the town."

Mike Potter, Chair of Pickering Town Community Interest Company

Community Funding Raised to date:

£749,106

Community ownership of solar PV, battery storage, decarbonised heat networks, wind turbines and all other renewable energy technologies.

Community Empowerment

The government has put community ownership at the centre of its energy strategy. Through legislation such as the Local Power Plan and the Warm Homes Plan, communities are being encouraged to develop, own and benefit from their own renewable energy assets. We strive to enable communities to realise such goals by helping them access the various funding and development streams being offered by central and local government.

Community Engagement

Community energy should be something local groups do together rather than having it thrust upon them. We are experts in engaging with the wider community, through a variety of methods, providing communication and education on each project and gaining support for project development.

Project Management

We have expertise in managing projects once grant funding has been secured and take a management fee from each grant for doing so. In this way, our project development and financing activities are provided for free in return for being appointed as project manager for the work and we only get paid once a grant is secured. Therefore, no community funds are required at the outset.

Feasibility Studies

All of our current community projects are at the feasibility stage ranging from detailed designs of ground-source heat networks to high-level feasibility on hydro power in rural villages, community-owned battery storage facilities to community solar PV projects on village halls, schools and sports clubs.  As part of the feasibility work we will propose options for obtaining project development financing.
